Party vice president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that closer scrutiny of the leaked documents posted on the anonymous blog "The Benchmark" about Tabung Haji's land buy from 1MDB, showed that the pilgrims' fund had also made the sukuk investment.
"RM1.6 billion is the risk from Tabung Haji's existing investment in 1MDB's Bandar Malaysia sukuk," he said today in a statement.
According to the document, on February 18, 2014, 1MDB announced its Bandar Malaysia sukuk sale worth RM2.4 billion.
"If this is true, it means Tabung Haji has funded 66% of the sukuk that 1MDB has offered," Tuan Ibrahim said.
The PAS leader urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is also 1MDB's advisory board chairman, as well as Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, to come clean on the matter.
"If it is true, what is the status of the sukuk investment? Has it generated returns or has it been used to pay off 1MDB's mounting debts," Tuan Ibrahim said.
He also alleged that the firm's huge pile of debt was the reason it had sold the parcel of TRX land to Tabung Haji.
"Is this how Umno leaders use Tabung Haji's money? 1MDB gets itself into debt and Tabung Haji is used to cover it?," the PAS Pahang commissioner said.
The pilgrims' fund has confirmed its purchase of 0.63ha of TRX land for RM188.5 million, and yesterday announced that the land will be sold soon after public uproar.
Tabung Haji has also lodge a police report against the leaked documents, which it said were confidential, that have been posted on the anonymous blog.
